Safety is our primary concern. For you, your passengers, boat, equipment and fellow water users. Please read the following Code of Practice which will help you enjoy your time on the water. The Hirer is responsible that the following points are adhered to:
- On the first day of your hire period, you will receive an onboard handover and safety brief from a member of staff. The safety brief takes approximately 30 minutes for the Powercats and Island Pilots and an hour for the Sealegs, highlighting the operation of the boat and the following points.
- Following the onboarding briefing, if you still do not feel fully confident in operating the vessel then you have the responsibility to notify the staff member delivering the handover in this instance.
- The boat will be supplied with full fuel tanks and we offer a free daily refueling service. However, it is your responsibility to check you have enough fuel onboard for the day’s activities. If in doubt please call The Boatyard on (01720) 422702.
- No Smoking or naked flames onboard the boat at any time.
- Buoyancy aids of the correct size will be supplied for all onboard, including children. These must be worn whilst afloat, including in the tender, using the Ringo or water skis.
- When towing a Ringo or water skiing a minimum of 2 people must be onboard the boat, a helmsman (Driver) and lookout.
- The Helmsman of the boat must wear the kill cord correctly whilst underway.
- Passengers must remain within the confines of the boat, preferably sitting down.
- No sitting on the bow of the boat is allowed, at any time.
- The Helmsman must show competence in the handling of the boat and conduct themselves in a seaman like manner showing respect to the boat, their passengers, other water users and the environment.
- Each boat has a strict maximum number of people which must not be exceeded.
- The boat must only be used within the area marked on the chart supplied.
- Quay’s and Jetties (including the black pontoon in St. Mary’s Harbour) are to be used to pick up and drop off only and you must not remain alongside or leave the boat tied alongside.
- Do not obstruct other craft using the quays, especially commercial craft and ferries.
- Do not use a mooring other than your own or belonging to IOSBH.
- Please carry the tender up and down the beach or use the trailer provided, do not drag.
